Statement

Using personal narratives, I create installations that navigate the space between public and private. Text, images, and objects function as mnemonic devices, weaving together stories that materialize memory. My work forms typologies of recollection—an act of assembling and activating the past.

Drawn to the materiality of objects, I integrate photography, printmaking, and sculpture, synthesizing these processes to explore memory, material culture, and the social sciences. Each medium serves as a thread in a larger tapestry, tracing the connections between personal history and collective experience.

Inviting viewers into my narrative is akin to writing a play—I carefully shape the amount of information revealed, guiding perception through mapping, scripted audio, text, and non-linear patterning. By creating collections of interconnected objects, I construct layered experiences where stories unfold, overlap, and invite reflection.

Patrick Perry is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores the spaces between dichotomies—beautiful and ugly, ordinary and extraordinary, art and craft. Through site-specific works and installations, he engages with the subtle tensions that emerge in these interstitial spaces.

Perry’s academic journey spans multiple disciplines. He earned a Diploma in Fine Craft specializing in Jewelry/Metal Arts from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 1997. He pursued Sculpture and Installation at the Ontario College of Art in 1998 before completing a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1999. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Education from the University of New Brunswick in 2000, a Master of Fine Arts from the Maine College of Art in 2006, and a Master of Arts in Photography from Lehman College, New York, in 2019.

His professional experience includes roles as an Exhibition Designer, Exhibition Coordinator, and Art College Instructor. Currently, he teaches Jewelry, Sculpture, 3D Design, and Darkroom Photography at Eastchester High School in Westchester, New York. Perry has exhibited his work in numerous group and solo exhibitions across Canada and the United States.

Based in New York City, he is the founder of mē´tria metal, a jewelry company, and is currently pursuing a Landscape Design Certificate at the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Gardens.
